Maybe Elon is doing things that are so crazy to unify everyone, this is just a flat out terrible decision and I hope it leads to more people #JoinMastodon

This is Elon's contribution to ""saving the world"" đŸ˜č *Making his platform so toxic, it forces his users to collectively re-evaluate the state of social media-*

It also violates EU law! So it‘s not just crazy, but „even stupider than police allows“ (a German saying, badly translated to English).
in reply to Brodie Robertson

As far as I know it specifically violates EU law regarding competitors. I‘m not too well versed in it either, but that‘s what I heard/read.

I've been saying it and I'll keep saying it: Elon Musk stated years ago that he would only buy Twitter to shut it down.
That's exactly what he's doing, in as noisy a spectacle as possible.

If I were the richest man in the world I would do the same thing with Microsoft, starting by open sourcing all of their software and making Windows 12 a Linux distro (or maybe a freebsd fork,) compatibility with previous Windows versions be damned. Imagine the absolute meltdown that would ensue when corporations no longer have any support at all for old Windows versions, MS Office just becomes another OpenOffice fork with the old MS file format support stripped out.

Then over at the XBox division I would have all MS-owned games be forced to have native Linux clients developed with the SteamDeck as the target platform. The next version of the XBox would just be a Steam Machine with an XBox series-style controller.
