As everyone knows, the original #Pinephone isn't a fast device. But I feel that in the past year, OSes and apps have benefited from optimizations. My phone feels snappier. Firefox on postmarketOS and Manjaro launches in less than 13 seconds at first boot, then in about 8 sec afterwards. On Mobian this past summer, the first launch took 30 seconds or more (I guess I should revisit Mobian since its upgrade). So, the Pinephone would be enough for me, if not for its pathetic camera sensor... 😔

I wonder if it will ever be possible to upgrade the rear camera sensor without changing the mainboard. That would really be great. Or, upgrade to the Pinephone Pro mainboard and camera sensor, while keeping all other components?

This is correct -- changes had to be made to the #pinephonepro chassis to fit the new mainboard (mostly added thickness).

In terms of the original Pinephone mainboard: the Allwinner A64's camera interface can't handle sensors higher than 5 megapixels. Unfortunately, there aren't really any sensors (currently under production) that fit the bill while being any better than the OV5640 already equipped on the Pinephone.

Ah, that's a pity. As I find a good camera sensor is important to me, this means a Pinephone Pro is likely to be in my future. 😉 I do want to stop carrying my Android device for that, and my old DSLR is a little big to lug around all the time.

I will have to make sure that my two regular Pinephones are re-attributed so that they continue to be useful.
