#HCIReview “Big C, Little c” Creativity as a False Dichotomy: Reality is not Categorical (tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…) - Creativity Research Journal ‘14 comments, criticism on Big-C and little-c. Career accomplishment requires other factors as well and cannot be attributed to Big-C. “They all depend on the same creativity. They differ mostly in things that occur after the creative act.” They suggest avoiding using the noun “creativity” and instead use the adjective “creative” (e.g., a child’s creative potential, a creative trait).


#HCIReview Practice-Based Research in the Creative Arts: Foundations and Futures from the Front Line (direct.mit.edu/leon/article-ab…) - Leonardo ‘18 on practice-based research through looking into examples of PhD research that they have supervised. First, there is a contrast between design and arts: “In design research, for example, the emphasis is on understanding the nature of practice and how to improve it (…) By contrast, in the creative arts, including new media arts, the emphasis is on creative process and the works that are generated”. They discuss how artifacts contribute to knowledge generation and emphasizes that “it is equally important to recognize that practice-based research is research and not practice alone.”
