Ingenuity is well beyond its “warranty” at this point, but has been zipping along with me, keeping up for as long as it can as we move together uphill.

In all seriousness, how does a spacecraft end up ahead of schedule? I thought the flight plan, including factors like fuel consumption, orbital mechanics, possible collision risks, was all mapped out in advance very carefully.l

We’ve all seen the sci-fi artwork showing two planets in the sky, or a second Sun.
I wonder what a sky filled with nearby Suns and planets would look like.

The mountains of southeastern California are home to a large rare-earth element mine.

64 light-years away, a planet called HD 189733 b orbits its Sun-like star in ~2 days! We studied it in Xray light, which also revealed a companion star. Its beautiful blue hue is thought to be from glass blowing in 5,400 mph/8,700 kph winds. We love itđź’™ go.nasa.gov/3YSMDTV

Lava it!🌋
Our solar system isn't the only one with volcanoes! There's evidence of volcanism on 55 Cancri e, a planet 40 light-years away. Volcanoes there would likely be short and covered by lava due to the super-Earth's high gravity! 360° visualization: go.nasa.gov/406jrdz

In a first, scientists have seen direct evidence of active volcanism on Venus. They made the discovery after poring over archival radar images taken in the 1990s by NASA’s Magellan mission.

NASA's Magellan mission to Venus ended in 1994, but its data is still yielding new discoveries! An active volcano on Venus? 🤯

Where else in the solar system do we see active volcanoes? Jupiter's moon Io – seen here by @NASAVoyager and in infrared light by the #JunoMission – is continually tugged by gravity from Jupiter and its other moons, resulting in hundreds of volcanoes. solarsystem.nasa.gov/io

The artist who walked on another world!

On his birthday, we remember astronaut and artist Alan Bean! Bean walked on the Moon for Apollo 12, commanded the Skylab 3 crew 50 years ago in 1973, and after retiring from NASA, devoted his time to painting his spaceflight memories.
