Five planets are locked in a rhythmic dance around their Sun-like star. It's one of the best examples we have of orbital resonance, where the planets move in synchronicity. There's also evidence of a sixth world in this cosmic ballroom!💃🏾 go.nasa.gov/42L7DOJ

What's YOUR favorite planet? There are eight in our solar system and billions beyond, and we've confirmed 5,347 of them. So, if you don't have a favorite yet, stay tuned! Maybe we're still looking for it? Exoplanets.nasa.gov

In our system, aside from home, I'm with Dr Becky, It has to be Saturn. *swoon*

It's kinda hard honestly to find an exoplanet to be my fave but if i do had one i guess some exoplanets that are kind similar to our Earth, an another world for escape that moves my fantasy away from this world, so i had to choose Earth-like exoplanets as my faves.

Just as we're ramping up the exploration of asteroids and other small bodies in our own solar system, @NASAWebb has revealed that a young, nearby star hosts a complex system of three dust belts – and possibly a collision occurring between protoplanets go.nasa.gov/3HQfvWX

Noctiluca scintillans algae blooms can soak up all the oxygen in the water, killing fish and coral.

Webb has a new achievement under its (asteroid) belt!

This image is our first infrared look at an asteroid belt outside our solar system. Webb reveals there are actually 3 belts, including 2 never-before-seen inner belts, around the star of Fomalhaut: go.nasa.gov/42dH7h6
#JamesWebb

The 3 nested belts here extend out to 14 billion miles (23 billion km) from the star. That’s 150 times the distance of Earth from the Sun! The scale of the outermost belt is also roughly twice the scale of our solar system’s Kuiper belt.

Update on Tulare Lake: still growing.

The historic lakebed, now covered with farms that grow a variety of crops, is flooded after two major storms hit southern California. This enhanced-color image by #Landsat highlights the water in dark blue. go.nasa.gov/3NKKJCH
#NASAEarth

in reply to NASA

@burritojustice There’s something ironic about saying a lakebed is flooding and crops are being flooded when they’re planted. In. A. Lakebed.

NASA’s Aqua satellite captured the progression of flooding in the Tulare Lake basin from March 2 to April 28.

Flooding in the lakebed is likely to continue into 2024, which will affect residents and farmers in the area. go.nasa.gov/3NKKJCH

in reply to NASA

It’s just so interesting to describe a lakebed collecting water as “flooding”. Yeah, I know, but still.
