When a company pledges to ‘plant a tree,’ tell them you prefer they help ‘protect a forest.’
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

Protecting forests is great, but one greenwashing strategy is to sell the protection of the same forest over and over again. I don’t know how we distinguish that from real protection efforts.
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

YES!! 🌲🌲Take care of the trees and forests we already have.

I really appreciate @msifry's new interview on the "A Land for All" proposal for Israel/Palestine: theconnector.substack.com/p/to…

It may not be the perfect solution, but the world needs to be insisting that there is no peace without durable justice—and that includes thinking outside the 19th century nation state.

a nice little upgrade, but I'll stick with my trusted original model for the time being. It's a bit too expensive to buy a new one every year.

The new Bard's review of my yet-unpublished book: "Governable Spaces" is a thought-provoking book that offers a compelling vision for a more democratic and just online world.

in reply to Nathan Schneider

More Bard:

The book proposes the concept of "governable spaces" as an alternative to online feudalism.

Governable spaces are online communities that are designed to be self-governing, with accessible, transparent decision-making processes and enforcement mechanisms.

These spaces would be more democratic, inclusive, and accountable than the current models of online governance.

Now this is interesting.

Joe Biden to support Haudenosaunee Nationals

The internationally ranked men’s and women’s lacrosse teams will get support on their bid to the International Olympic Committee to compete under their own flag at the 2028 Olympics

The Haudenosaunee never ceded their lands to the US, and by treaty should be considered an independent nation. Accepting these teams playing at the Olympics under their own flag may set a precedent for legal recognition--maybe. The UN still does not appear to accept representatives from Indigenous nations in the General Council. That right seems to be lacking, and given instead to the invaders of countries such as the US, Canada, Australia, parts of South America, and more.

That Cough Everyone Seems To Have Right Now?

quotation text hereIt's not COVID or the flu. If you've been sick for a few weeks and have tested negative for everything, here's what's going on.

There's Something Going Around....

Sister: "You should visit during the holidays!"

My sisters, mother, nieces, and nephews have all had COVID - twice in some cases. No, I won't be visiting any time soon.

in reply to Joseph Teller

I still use a mask in the grocery store and will if I have to use public transit for medical trips. Too many people I know have gotten hit by covid or the flu badly in recent months (some for the second time) and it gets worse with each time they have gotten it. I am up to date on my shots for such, as well as flu and pneumonia since my risk is still very real.

Assuming I don't get stuck for 3 hours, today might be the last episode of our #ArmoredCore 6 journey, it's been a ton of fun, there's been a lot of screaming but all good things must end youtube.com/watch?v=cbcU4uC3BF…

23andMe was hacked and DNA records of 7 million people were compromised. Originally they said it was 14,000.

They just sent out an innocuous sounding email about change in Terms of Service.

If you do not respond rejecting the change, you will give up the ability to be part of the class action lawsuits that are being filed, or take action in court against them.

They sent this out before they are notifying those whose data were breached.

Strongly recommend you opt out of the change.
