The Great Lakes have been unusually ice-free this winter. In this image from Feb. 13, ice cover on the lake was 7 percent – the lowest ice cover measured on this date of any year since 1973 when satellite-based record keeping began.

We've been having spring-like temps in North Carolina since the big arctic freeze hit us at Christmas. Overnight temps have mainly been in the 40s and 50s, when they would normally be in the 20s and lower 30s, with at least a few nights in the teens. Yesterday I saw a cloud of gnats flying in the yard. We don't usually see them until late May.

Why does Lake Erie look so different from the other lakes?

Sediment kicked up by storms gives its water a marbled-like look.

in reply to NASA

This infographic explains a lot of it: it’s shallow. That alone could result in more sediment movement, but is certainly also means the others are darker because they are so deep in comparison.

you could put more effort in guiding private users to NC providers. Preferably by country. Big and great providers cannot even be found, like Hetzner in Germany. Don’t forget, the change comes also from private users which carrying the solution into business.

Cool, so a few questions on the pic

the red star to the right of the centre of the galaxy, is that a red giant? and to the far right of the picture there is something very bright indeed, anothr galaxy or is that a supernova as it looks brighter than the centre of the galaxy.

I still play Civ VI - mostly because my computer was upgraded to be able to play it just over a year ago.
