Last week, Halley’s comet reached its farthest point away from the Sun and has begun its journey back towards the center of our solar sytem. The comet last visited us in 1986 and will come again in 2061. phys.org/news/2023-12-famed-ha…

Over the course of 2023, I became totally radicalized by the fediverse's potential to improve just about everything about our online lives. I wrote about why — and what it'll take to get there: theverge.com/23990974/social-m…

Wow, got totally called out for my obviously unprofessional behaviour on @gamingonlinux

So here's a statement I have prepared about what I will do...

Decided to post this part of my Friday livestream, because I think it's important to talk about the social media behavior of @gamingonlinux. He needs to do better in the future.

I read "War Thunder has another" and expected another leaked classified stuff 😁

Overall the game is nice, but it has this strange feature: game developers want to convince us that russian tanks are the best. When playing on ratings 4.0 - 5.0 more than half of all vehicles are T-34 and KV-1/2. That is enough to say that there is something wrong with it.

The #Linux Hardware Lemmy community I moderate is now the official one for the Linux Hardware Reddit too. Nice.

Are you trying to say that I can't use hardware accelerated AV1 just because my gpu doesnt support it? What happened to the good old days (when we were not able to use app if it was not developed for our specific hardware)

I keep thinking that this isn't such a bad idea!

New study backs up anecdotal evidence that video conference meetings can take a toll on participants

The study, performed at an Austrian University, sought to determine whether videoconferencing led to fatigue on a brain level.

It defined that fatigue as “somatic and cognitive exhaustion that is caused by the intensive and/or inappropriate use of videoconferencing tools.” Videoconferencing tools include platforms like Zoom, Teams, and Webex.

Would it make a difference if people started using sock puppets as avatars?

Here’s my #SteamYearInReview

s.team/y23/cfrjgj?l=english

These always leave me with so many questions. And this year, with the #SteamDeck, I have even more.

Like, they said I played on two devices: Steam Deck and Linux. That’s kinda weird, right?

Also, they don’t count offline play time, which is probably the majority of my gaming time this year because of the Deck. Almost one hour every work day I’m on my Steam Deck playing in offline mode.

At any rate, whatever, here’s my shit, judge me.

P.S., I gained 8k elo in #CS2 this past week and started hitting 110-130 adr regularly again. I think it’s because I started drinking coffee again 😹

The most insane comment is: github.com/probonopd/wayland-x…

Basically "Nah, securing one end isnt worth is, because other attack vectors exist. So lets make it insecure by default, because I dont care and so should you. Others can figure it out later"

Had some time to think about this more. Today's @Flipboard news is substantial and I can't wait for this ActivityPub integration to become widely available, especially for publishers and content creators.

I should write more about this in a blog post, but wanted to plop down some quick thoughts.

As @mike pointed out, it's a break down of the walled garden of content. This hopefully creates greater exposure/promotion of Magazines, and maybe even Storyboards.
