This product reminds me of the old David Firth cartoon Burnt Face Man. "I may be an amazon product, but that hasn't affected my ability to fight crime!"

This video is interesting given the new developments around Verkada's security breach #InternetOfCrap #IPCameras.

It's also something that this device itself wasn't built down to a cost. In fact the design could have been made more efficient and cheaper to manufacture without reducing quality. I get vibes from the number of module boards that they minimised engineering time and costs by doing as little as possible to make a prototype PoC unit into a saleable product quickly. Then they get "first mover advantage" and revenue to make a rev2.

This "rush to market" probably affects software quality too, hence the terrible security breaches like this most recent one.

the esteemed inventor of putting a camera on a wall presents an overproduced and yet somehow practically underwhelming device. amazing how that works.

One of my neighbours has a Ring and its red LED comes on most times I pass by it in the hallway >.>
The frustrating thing is that in Germany they don't _yet_ share recordings with the cops and lots of people's reaction is "oh well in the US they do all sorts of things that aren't legal here", not seeing how the trend is generally that the US is ahead of Germany by ~5 years, but the same legislative lobbying works here too, just with a bit of delay.
