The rich SOBs that can buy senators and congress-critters may not regard suspension of federal funding of services for common folk as a deterrent. This outcome may even be thought to be a win-win.

This outcome may even be thought to be a win-win.

This is the perverse thing about the Republicans, and is responsible for much of their success: They thrive on destruction. And that is very difficult to deal with.

One might try to find ways to support the Democrats in their opposition of Republican treachery, rather than to merely scold them.

I do not merely scold the Democrats. I am forever giving them advice. And #1 on my list of advice would be for the Democrats to find solidarity with the people before the corporations. This they do not do, to this very day.

The mass of people may not be too bright - but sooner or later they realize that they are losing ground, and that they are being cheated, and they are going to look for someone to blame. The Republicans have been very good at directing this negative force in their favor.
