Wayland, works great

Wayland under Fedora 42 KDE, has been treating me well so far.

Migrating from X11 to Wayland is only half the battle. We will still need an effective XWayland implementation for several more years. So far KDE 6.4+ seems to make all applications run extremely well regardless of whether they are X11 or Wayland. Parallel that with managing Flatpaks through Flatseal, and it's a near-perfect workflow.

Wayland is working right... My only sadness is that Plank wasn't ported to Wayland

Wayland on the laptop and X11 on the gaming desktop. Sadly, my gaming desktop isn't powerful enough for Wayland and stutter-free gaming so this is forcing me into an upgrade cycle a la Windows 11 style. The irony is not lost on me.

Wayland on Debian. An older desktop, 2 laptops. Works just fine.

x11

I'm waiting for when LXQt on wayland is more or less the same as on x11

Regularly test both on three machines (laptop, desktop, Raspberry Pi). I run a variety of desktops on AMD and Intel video cards. X11 is lighter, faster, and more stable on all three machines, across all desktops, so it's the one I tend to use the most.

Wayland might catch up eventually, but it crashes and stutters too much for me to use it for daily work.

wayland, it works perfectly and I absolutely LOVE the permission system, no ones access my camera or my keyboard with my permission. That should be the default everywhere.

Fedora 42 KDE - wayland. wanted waydroid to run flawlessly...

I'm using X11 and it's treating me very well; I'm using it over a network (over ssh) to do a thing that Wayland makes no attempt to provide (a UI on this machine over here for a process running on that machine over there).

Δ± m using Ubuntu 24.10. I had a freezing problem for a while. As a solution I switched to X11 but everything got worse. I returned to wayland again. Everything is good now. πŸ˜€

i am all new to using wayland, on 13+year old PC with an old nvidia 1050ish gfx. i experienced lots and lots of glitches, flickers, hangs on common apps, video playback, steam games, and a total failure on using Virtualbox. If i login to KDE using X11 only, LOTs of these problems are gone/workable. I am not skilled / experienced enough to determine if the problem is wayland or my old NVIDIA card/drivers i was using. However i have been unable to get my important stuff to work.

I can't even get X11 started on my GPU so Wayland it is, whether I like it or not.

- Wayland. Using Ubuntu 24.04 (don't judge me!) both on i7 desktop with a Radeon 7600XT gpu, and on a MS Surface Go tablet. Took a while, but I think its finally ready for primetime.

I am currently on X11. I tried Wayland on my older desktop and older laptop, it did not run well on either one. That does not a surprise me given other problems that I also have on those systems. If I get a better / newer system, then I will give Wayland a second try.

X11, love smoothness of wayland, but got to much problems with wayland for my work workflow like screencasting with Slack (yes hate slack but required for work, its kinda work in wayland but meh), tools like gpick and many others, if not work definitely will love to use wayland.

X, tried wayland, didnt like it. Dont care about fancy compositing, all i need is a fast display server that does only what it has to and nothing more

actual wayland (on a macbook air 2014 with ram upgrade… works very well, distro manjaro)
in reply to DooDee

@doodee Nice to see that a MacBook is playing nice with Wayland.

At least an 11-year-old Air with an Intel chip.

Specs:

CPU: 1,3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5
RAM: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
GPU: integrated Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB

#kdeplasma #wayland on #endeavouros, coming from #budgiedesktop. Bugs are _really_ minor. Signal crashes sometimes when opening the screencast portal and I got the top left corner of my screen unusable once after a Windows game crashing under Wine. Beside that, everything is flawless. Most of I do in Qt Creator, Floorp, Signal, Alacritty, virtmanager/boxes, FL Studio and Wine/Proton. I was an user of Wayland before but went back to X to use #budgiedesktop.

x11 and Wayland, I tried both and there is nothing to complain about, I'm using #SolusBudgie and it's X11, works just fine
in reply to It's FOSS

I use Wayland on my #Fedora and #UltramarineLinux (Fedora) machines, and X11 on my #LinuxMint and #TuxedoOS machines.

I don’t have a problem with either, but I’m not a gamer and none of my machines are using NVIDIA graphics.

in reply to It's FOSS

I'm using wayland. It's pretty great and stable despite being a gamer on hyprland with nvidia. Unstable stuff would be non-wayland things like neovim pkgs in nixos.
in reply to It's FOSS

using Wayland for several years, last 3 I use it with SwayWM, everything works great, it has a fallback support for X if needed. No negative about X from my side, just like to be early adapter 😎
in reply to It's FOSS

Still X11 as using i3WM. I tried to switch to sway / Wayland and failed..
