As long as the weather cooperates, I’ll be pulling my kids out of school next Monday to drive east into the path of totality during the solar eclipse.

Do you have #eclipse plans?

in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

Safe driving!

I live along the path, so we will go out in the yard to see it. Schools are canceled around here, so it'll be a quiet day at home, hoping for good weather.

in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

I promised my family that we would see this one together. So mostly checking my weather app every hour. But I’m pumped!

we are planning to head to Torreón Mexico, which has the benefit of nearly perfect weather and not making any of our kids illegal just for existing or getting healthcare, unlike most of the US states with low predicted cloud cover. Unfortunately, we may have to cancel due to a recent medical emergency... Still hopeful.

staying with friends in Arkansas and then driving whatever direction has the least clouds day of 🤞
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

we’re headed to Oswego, NY. We used to live kind of around there, so we’re making a long weekend out of it and catching up with some long forgotten friends while we’re there.
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

plan was to head south to the Kansas City area on Sunday and then northeast, east or southeast from there on Monday, depending on clouds. But all can change based on better forecasts end of the week. Family can't join...

Saw the last one in Herculaneum, MO. We were by ourselves in a small grove of trees and it was absolutely incredible. All the forest sounds stopped. Eerie and beautiful. Also saw one many years ago in Mazatlan, Mexico. Drove outside of the city near some farmland. Same quiet of the chickens and other animals there. It is well worth the time to be an eclipse tourist.

Going to a location in totality that has a 60% chance of being overcast, and crossing all of my fingers and toes.
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

- I'm going to Dallas, TX, for the Skeptics Guide to the Universe shows and the #eclipse. Forecast doesn't look good right now, but it looks better than it did yesterday. Crossing my fingers for continued improvement and good viewing!!
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

we are heading out of town as well. I hope the weather is good!
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

Yep! For two years... though I'm worried if anything within driving distance will be clear skies
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

The path of totality is a long way from me, so I'm hoping to catch it on a livestream somewhere. I went to New Mexico to see the annular eclipse last fall, though.

@Sheril

in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

saw the 2017 eclipse while living near Albany NY. There will be very short partial visibility on Eastern Long Island NY and forecast of rain. Maybe NASA website will be tracking...
Have fun and wear your eclipse viewing glasses.
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

I'm fortunate enough to live right in the zone and will watch it here in NYC ☺️
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

Yep. Hoping the weather will cooperate. Five nights at St. Joe S. P. an hour south of St. Louis MO. State park in at the edge of totality so plan to drive a few miles SE for the day.
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

currently on the road enroute to TX. Coming from the west so hoping it will not be over-crowded. If the wx holds this will be 3rd total. As a septuagenarian it is likely to be my last.
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

Doesn’t matter about the weather. It’s still cool. Was at an eclipse in 99. Was incredibly cloudy. Stood on top of a hill and saw all the confused cows lie down to sleep and camera flashes going off on the horizon. Then all the dawn chorus started up.
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

The hope is to drive from Chicago to somewhere in Indiana. My fingers are crossed that the cloud cover models hold and that north of Indianapolis will be a good viewing spot!
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

I've seen a total eclipse twice in my life so we can not justify driving 900 miles to see another one.
in reply to Sheril Kirshenbaum

It is a super hot topic here in Ohio. Totality passes over my house!

There are LOTS of naysayers in the crowd, though. During a meeting yesterday, someone mentioned that the weather was going to be bad, so they are moving it south a few miles. I thought that was the greatest thing i've yet heard.

I am taking the day off, and tyring to get a pass to get to the top of the library of our local university.
