It would be a nightmare if Mozilla sold user data in the future. Firefox, for decades, was not just a browser, but a symbol for freedom, privacy and the open source movement. Adapting big tech behavior and crossing borders once defended, would destroy more than just their image. So much more ...
my understanding is that brave and ladybird have corporate issues of their own, especially related to LGBT+ bigotry. Feels like solid foss, nonprofit options are few. But here we are again.
I've moved over to LibreWolf on my laptop. Turned off all the privacy stuff that I found ott for my needs and it seems to work great. I'm syncing my bookmarks up to my Nextcloud server. I just need to figure out what I do with my mobile browser now.
Mozilla has already improved the wording of the TOS after the outrage. If you don't trust them, you can still disable sending data to them, as you could before. The ads on new tab page can also be disabled, as they could before.
You can't donate towards Firefox development, but you can buy Mozilla VPN and Firefox Relay instead, which achieve the same goal.
I think @thelinuxEXP's video on Firefox's shenanigans hits the nail right on its head.
And regardless of how they want to spin it, and how many times they try to change the ToS and FAQ, saying anything even remotely close to "we have the right to use your data to operate Firefox" does still mean they can sell your data, if selling your data is required to operate Firefox, which is yet another sneaky change to the software away from being a thing.
Anything short of "we will NEVER sell or otherwise make available for third parties by any means ANY of your data, for ANY purpose, barred judicial obligations" means they will sooner or later share your data with third parties.

I am still willing to give them the benefit of a doubt taking in consideration that they are in the middle of a rebrandind process.
Mistakes can definitely happen.
That being said, I will keep a closer eye on Firefox.
