Since I can switch off the AI I have returned to #Firefox

Mozilla is adding a toggle to disable all generative "AI" features in Firefox. It shows that organized pushback is actually making a difference.

One battle won. Now let's make it crystal clear. We want tools, not forced LLMs. Keep the pressure on until "AI" is no longer an option.

I had been using Firefox on my Android phone because, unlike mobile Chrome, it runs extensions I want, UBlock Origin and Privacy Badger. But I hate the new AI focus of Firefox. Vivaldi doesn't allow extensions either.

About 10 days ago I switched to the Waterfox browser, a Firefox fork, and love it. It effortlessly let me sign in to my FF account and transferred my bookmarks. Extensions: no problem. It's run flawlessly. Not a hint of AI.

Why not trying #librewolf ? It is basically #firefox without all the garbage and a few privacy-oriented tweaks.

@utzer mit dem #Firefox auf #Android hab ich nur Probleme. Das erste aufrufen einer Seite dauert mehrere Minuten, WebApps lade oft gar nicht. Ich habs aufgegeben und nutze nur noch #Vanadium.

!Friendica Support anyone know why Friendica in #Firefox for #Android with the Frio theme looks a bit broken?

Also the "New Post" button doesn't work. Any idea?

A quick Firefox tip for you! 🦊

The Task Manager helps you see which tabs, extensions, and internal processes are using the most CPU and RAM.

An organisational fork of Firefox needed.

A trusted organization.

Talk to your people.

#firefox #mozilla

I'd prefer seeing @mozilla enhancing their browser performance and stop adding AI features. I more and more use Chromium because #Firefox is slow on several web pages. But hell yeah, I'm sure, people will come back to Firefox because of chat bots. Who cares about bad performance? Haha 🙄

Don't get me wrong. I'm not against AI featurs in generell, as long I'm not forced to using them. But usability should be the higher priority. Firefox is still a browser, not an AI assistant...

a similar thing happens to #YunoHost instances too. Google looks at all the similar-looking login screens and thinks "landing page looks like other landing page, so it must be a phishing scam"

The worst part is that #Firefox uses this same "safe browsing" list as well

I wouldn't be surprised if it starts happening to instances of popular #Fediverse software too, although those have the advantage that their landing pages tend to be quite a bit more customised

Wow that is a hard one to answer as I don't use any #Proprietary tools
Back before I moved to Linux & was still on #Windows7 2019, I went out of my way to not use proprietary tools & only used open source tools & tools ported to #Windows from #Linux.
A cheap answer from me would be: #Okular & #Firefox replaced #Adobe Reader for PDFs
The thing about proprietary #Software is you have to pay for it & I was never into that🏴‍☠️ 🦜️
On #Android I've been replacing proprietary Apps with open source
