I'm really not getting where all the AI backlash is coming from. Is there a fear that the AI written code will be like spaghetti code and really hard to read and understand? You know you can set instructions in the agent so you can tell it how to write code, so that it has to make it clean, neat, readable, not overly complex etc? If you think cars are being driven badly, maybe the answer is not to ban cars, but rather to mandate that everyone has to take lessons and obtain a driving license? #ai#llm#future

In the midst of heated discussions on AI safety and consciousness, the Associated Press Stylebook has reminded everyone of where it stands on the whole “anthropomorphism” debate.

“Artificial intelligence systems do not think, feel, want or understand. Avoid language that gives them human characteristics,” it wrote Wednesday in a post on X. “This is called anthropomorphizing, when we ascribe human traits, emotions or behaviors to non-human things, such as animals or inanimate objects.”

This didn’t go over well in the world of AI experts and adherents, whose nerves, shall we say, were collectively struck by what they characterized as a “completely insane” declaration.

Microsoft has filed for a new patent that describes a credit system to "rent" software and games, including rate-limited rentals based on the type of use. In their examples, single player costs more than training mode, but multiplayer costs more credits than both. Users can 'earn' credits by subjecting themselves to more advertisements during loading screens, round win or loss screens, and level loading screens. The patent technology can be applied at the application level, OS level, and device level, making it wide-reaching and affecting more than just Windows machines. In one instance, Microsoft explicitly names Smart TVs. This would be similar, in some ways, to ACR (Automatic Content Recognition) on LG or other Smart TVs, where the patent-pending technology could scan the screen and audio.

I question what eutopia you've been living in. "Very few companies are so good at shipping software that they can afford" ... this is the critical point. Most companies are populated by a combination of dunning kruger and anti-union crypto bro wannabes. Working as a tech lead for the last 15 years, I can tell you that new religions try to form every day. My god just look at the state of front end development. This reeks of a vendor who is upset that #AI can replace their service.
