I'm hoping my following from Twitter ends up finding me on here. I have like 6 followers so far which is kind of depressing lol

I'll listen in for a while 😛izzaBlobCat: I'm trying to figure out how to organize my feed with the influx of new people. What sort of people were in your Twitter following?
in reply to Danny (he/they)

bioinformaticians, molecular biologist, microbiologist, guinea pig lovers, economists...a nice mix of people 😀
in reply to Haley Sanderson :verified:

sounds like a nice mix. Did they mostly find you via Twitter or some other way?

With the influx of new people I've been thinking about how I might want to reach out to my school friends throughout the ages and see if they want to sit on an instance with me.

Your mention of guinea pigs triggers a memory of this video. https://yewtu.be/watch?v=bq9ghmgqoyc
in reply to Danny (he/they)

yeah, most them I've worked with or I've found over the years on Twitter.

well the instance you're currently on seems new and open if the community standards are good then you should invite them over to join you 😁
in reply to Danny (he/they)

I've been trying to but some people are holding onto Twitter till the bitter end. I'm sure they will eventually move over here. I don't mind if I get a new following either. 😀

mmhmm oh actually you're not on a new instance... I thought I found you via mastodonscience.com but that was that madscientist fellow who commented on this thread. hmm interesting. I love learning about different instances through the people on them. How do you like the local of social.linux.pizza?
in reply to Danny (he/they)

It has been good. No real complaints but I also don't know what I'm doing so...lol

have you seen https://fedi.tips/ they're the guide I point to when folks say they don't know what they're doing

I think as long as you're going slow, interacting with the stuff you like, filtering out the stuff you don't, and reporting the stuff that's bad you'll find a place on the fediverse
in reply to Danny (he/they)

thats what I'm trying to do and so far it has been going ok. 😀 I'm definitely taking it slow.
