thank you for this great article, I would never have thought about using emacs or vim for writing. I've been using notesnook but I'm gonna give it a try

I agree with the general idea, but the article contains some inaccuracies. FOSS means free as in libre, but it doesn't necessarily mean free as in beer.

Take RCU (davisr.me/projects/rcu/) for example. It's free thanks to its AGPL license, but you need to pay to get it. And when you pay, you get one year of updates. Then, you need to pay again if you want more recent versions.
