Maybe its just me but I use arch linux too and I haven't seen many arch linux users do this kind of thing. This seems like something only some new arch linux users would do because they want to flex or something like that. Also gentoo users are always nice about it from what I've seen, I think they understand what it means to be a beginner at something.
To be honest, I've find more useful information in Arch wikis and forums than everywhere else! It's very very complete, and many of the solutions work quite well on Debian too (although there's some difference in configs)... Ubuntu sometimes can be tricky due to some custom settings to make things "work" out of the box, which ignores the usual configs you find on Debian!
