First attempt with two continuous tunsgten lights. I've used the second to accentuate the hair with a pink gel, but in hindsight, maybe should've used it for fill to reduce the contrast on the shadows.

The colour balance is nice. What kind of lights have you used?
If I remember correctly, there used to be special tungsten lights 3300K and 500W for use in photography. It has been a while, so perhaps I am mistaken.
I do not think the shadows need extra lighting.
in reply to MFierst

@mfierst Arri 650W and Arri 300W. They're halogen so a natural 3200K color temperature.

portra can be really difficult, needs so much light, but that shot looks great!
in reply to kava

@kava Are you comparing that to black and white or other color negative film? Or do you mean that it looks better one stop overexposed?
@kava
in reply to Eugen Rochko

the color negative. I recently shot 2 Gallery openings with the portra. all the portraits of the visitors under good light with small aperture looked great. the wider shots with open aperture nearly had any detail. I wouldn’t push the portra - I see so much grain already.

I really think it’s just the perfect film for Portraits, Indoor.

but I changed to Cinestill 400 recently and don’t regret it 😀

this one gives me the look i was hoping for instantly, no clour correction, just plain scan from the lab

in reply to Eugen Rochko

…yes - to answer your question i’d overexpose if you shoot wider shots.

You have found your true love.

TBH I think the world is moving on from photographs of women in their underwear.

Well done! Correct exposure for a black cat is quite difficult too master.

Pink Gel? that explains why her hair looks so stiff.
in reply to ideaPDish

@ipd Is this a joke or do you not know what a gel is in lighting terminology?
in reply to Eugen Rochko

IPD stands for Idea Petri Dish.
I know what Gel is, as in petridish medium. and in Jello.
And in how to make a mohawk,
and in molecurler gastroenemy.
I didn't know that they made a gel light?
is it kind of like a lava light?
