There’s sometimes some tinkering required (I had to change proton’s version to make Satisfactory work last week), but most of the time it works out of the box for me. I even found I have better performance on Linux due to Proton precompiling Vulkan shaders, and games that load plenty of files load faster due to NTFS being soooo slow compared to ext4 or btrfs.
I have forgot about gaming overall, maybe play about 2 hours a week. But can't lie, gaming sucks on linux. No matter what they say, as a fairly competent user, I run into all sort of issues. Tried different ways, different distros, it's still a pain in the ass.
I'm using both, so... My gaming experience on Linux is provided mostly by Steam Deck, and I don't miss anything there but some games are not available on Linux properly (like Minecraft Dungeons). Rest of my games are running on console, and some others, Steam for Windows.
over all, I use my Linux Laptop way more often than my Windows Desktop to game. I like multiplayer, so sometimes something does not work as intented or I need to tinker around (with Nvidia or Steam arguments), but it's working like 96% of the time and I love it ;)
Not at all! Civilization (my all time favorite), Cities skylines, Stellaris, Godhood, Crusader kings, Age of wonders, Rogues state revolution... I can play more than I have time and want to on Linux. Changing to Pop OS made it very easy.
