Sounds like a privacy nightmare. You should consider #Linux ๐Ÿ‘

One day this will type of stuff will end up mandatory, and even if itโ€™s local itโ€™s being fed into an AI. This stuff will get abused.

luckily it's limited to Snapdragon CPUs (for now)
edit: Like, if it were some, say, chinese shady software we would call it spying right away, when MS does it it's suddendly a feature?

Every breath you take ๐ŸŽถ
And every move you make ๐ŸŽต
Every bond you break ๐ŸŽถ
Every step you take ๐ŸŽต
I'll be watching you ๐ŸŽถ

Every single day ๐ŸŽต
And every word you say ๐ŸŽถ
Every game you play ๐ŸŽต
Every night you stay ๐ŸŽถ
I'll be watching you ๐ŸŽต

Oh, can't you see ๐ŸŽถ
You belong to me? ๐ŸŽต

dear god. MS is really doing everything they can to make this the year of the linux desktop.

Every time I read something about MAGA (Microsoft, Apple, Google, Amazon) I give thanks to Linux, Firefox, DDG, Nextcloud.

it's a nightmare for privacy, global system performance and disk space, for something nobody asked for...

Similar surveillance technologies may already soon become mandatory actually, if the #ChatControl legislation is passed in the EU.
#StopScanningMe

There is also an official question by member of the European Parliament @echo_pbreyer about how game developers would be affected by ChatControl (answer still pending): https://www.europarl.europa.eu/doceo/document/E-9-2024-001337_EN.html

I fully share your recommendation to use Linux instead of Windows. But ChatControl and #ClientSideScanning are a danger for all software users.

The main concern that will impact directly many user is related to privacy in our workplace.
So, no choice here.

My brain already has a recall function, why would I need my #PC to remember what happened the other day?

Anyone for this stuff just isn't thinking:

- It's another target for malicious use
- Most users don't go and tweak and change all their settings
- You really think Microsoft won't use your data somewhere? lololol

There's so so many problems with this kind of thing.

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

it's gonna be fun to see how Microsoft world will be different to Microsoft Europe ( privacy and optout law here)

Still sad that a lot of game doesn't work on Linux because of anti cheat

Did they try to blame sites for not cloaking in the same sentence in which they state they just surveil your activity with no security?

"Save this AWS Secret Access Key in a secure location now as it will not be displayed again" - except when Recall decides to just casually drop it into a conversation with a 3rd party a month later.

"we are going to take pictures of your screen as you type in your passwords but it's the fault of the websites actually not us"
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

It's a nice way for MS to use your data "without using your data". They will train the AI model on your computer and import the model regularly. Having data about you without having it! Brilliant, isn't it?
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

Can you opt-out or deactivate it completely? Or it will be like Cortana, a thing that you can bound but not opt-out completely because it is invetered in the system search feature?
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

At least it's exclusive to the new Snapdragon ARM processors, since apparently modern Intel and AMD chips can't handle that kind of AI.

Nevertheless, it's still a hell of a dick move by Microsoft, but what were we expecting, considering both Copilot and ads on the Start menu (maybe eventually even in, I don't know, the settings app? Who knows) shoved in Win11 for no reason at all?

I really don't get why companies keep on shoving these glorified tech demos everywhere.

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

The more MS teases Win 11's new features, the more I feel like replacing my Win10 install with Linux.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

Nice feature for all abusive managers wanting full control of their employees! They will be very disappointed that it's limited to a specific processor now ๐Ÿ˜‚
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

Great news to hurry us to finally switch to Linux. We've been wanting to do it for a long time, although for a completely different reason - the comfort of Linux programming.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

If this is active at any point without the users full knowledge and understanding and without them manually and intentionally starting it up themselves its just straight up malware at a level that should be illegal.
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

I would love to do that if I knew how to get at least close to my current Windows configuration. It's really hard to move away from the ease of software like SteelSeries Sonar and Moments. I don't even know where to start, haha ๐Ÿ˜…
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

Microsoft doesn't seem to have the best track record in privacy or ethics or playing well with others or coding or software releases or updates, unless you're speaking to bloatware malware viruses and forcing hardware obsolescence artificially to drive a market for profits sake at the expense of the end user.

there's literally no way this invasive bullshit doesn't somehow get tied to Teams productivity reporting, at some point.

Yeah, people often don't kno or ignore the fact that humans abuse even the smallest amount of power.
