Fedora considering adding in 'privacy-preserving' telemetry https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2023/07/fedora-considering-adding-in-privacy-preserving-telemetry/ #Linux #Fedora #FOSS

I actually think It is OK yo have that kind of telemetry that is used to know how fedora is used so It can be better enhanced. I prefer It is off by default and I can enable It if I want. But the important thing is what is collected, if It can identify you or not, and what use they make of It. So.... Lets wait until a definitive proposal is made and then we can worry with a reason.

maybe I have missed it, but neither in that article, nor in lwn.net's one there's a single word about who is proposing that addition. And I'm probably putting too much behind that, but RedHat seems to be turning into Microsoft from the 00s 😐

Not gonna lie, I would be less skeptical of a "privacy preserving telemetry", if it didn't come in the middle of a hot streak of bad decisions from IBM Red Hat.

I mean sure but all they'll find out is that people are installing proprietary codecs that they removed last month anyway

so assuming this goes ahead, what's a good alternative to fedora that offers a similar balance of stability and up to date software?
