Democratic Underground shared this quote from my 2009 book, Unscientific America, as a quote for the day.
It’s interesting to return to in 2023, especially given my research on scientific decision making in Congress. I’m not quite sure how I would change it at first glance, but my perspective is more nuanced 14 years later. #science #democracy #politics

I recognized that while a staffer, but appreciate it more now.

in reply to JohnMashey • • •@JohnMashey @muzzle I have to think about this more. While I don’t disagree with the statement exactly, it’s far too broad a brushstroke. Some politicians & staff are deeply committed to science. And often, it’s more issue based than “science” as a whole.
I now see the quote as an overgeneralization & wouldn’t write it the same way in my 40s as I did in my 20s.
