There are currently over 8 billion people on Earth. Yes, that’s a lot BUT there are about 1.4 billion insects for every human. Combined, they weigh about 70x more than all of us.

And insects have been around for over 350 million years. That's longer than the dinosaurs. Modern humans only showed up between 200-300,000 years ago.

We need insects to survive. They don't need us. This is their world. #science #history

They've been around 350 million years and what have they done? Silk? Admittedly impressive. Pollination of plants is useful but mammals can and do do that.

We've been around less than 0.1% of that time and we have iPhones. Also Raid.

There are more viruses than beetles.

Why I laughed when someone said, absolutely serious, "Man is the dominant species."

Do you know how many insects there are?

He would not budge.

true, but for scientific correctness: I think you are comparing non-comparable. If you want compare insects, do it with e. g. mammals. If you want to compare humans, choose e. g. flies. In general the result remains the same, just not with that high numbers …

in studies done in Germany we have already lost 80% of biomass of insects.

I'm pretty excited about the assassin bug I saw in my vegetable garden yesterday!

Sooo…just curious, but if all those insects decided to eat all of us humans, how long would it take? And here I was getting all upset about tariffs and human rights. #InsectOverlordsRule

We're doing our level best to wipe them all out, and having some success. That may be a little short sighted of us.

The purpose of humanity is to get the more important species to other planets.
