A number of folks have reached out to us over the past few months asking how they could help Mastodon out. Unfortunately, we haven't had the capacity to accept those kind offers at the time.

If you're interested in getting involved as a volunteer, please fill out this form (and share it around!) so we know who could help with what. (There is plenty that needs doing!)

Can we have a list of "good first" issues?
I want to contribute but there's no good starting point at all.

Mastodon has a label called "fit for beginners" but it is stale. All these issues are before 2018: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues?q=is%3Aopen+is%3Aissue+label%3A%22fit+for+beginners%22

I asked the same question in your IRC but there's no good answer.

I'd suggest you offer people a #translation pitch in option similar to how

or

Many moons ago, I did have an updated LinkedIn-profile. It must be still out there. However I haven’t used it for ages. And it’s a commercial platform. You need some confirmation of who I am. I get that. I am retired. So I really don’t use LinkedIn. My profile there is no longer accurate. I am happy to provide you with a CV. I have been a moderator/ admin on IRC and still manage Facebook groups. Most things you would want to know about me are in the links in my Mastodon-accounts.

I do not have the skill to help, except in positive vibes, really appreciate those who fight the good fight to make this service happen. Many thanks.

I suspect the best way to help Mastodon is to move away from large instances like mastodon.social. That would mean making it easier for more people/organizations to run instances independently. Perhaps have a partnership with AWS/Azure/GCP for a one-click installation.

Thanks for trying to figure out how to grow "Mastodon", bit why Typeform and why no indication of how these data will be used? I didn't feel comfortable answering the first two questions tbh!

Ich fange niemals an, Fragebogen auszufüllen, wenn ich sie nicht vor dem ersten Ankreuzen/Einsetzen etc. GANZ sehen kann.

It is not very smart to ask for name and email BEFORE seeing the choices. This unnecessarily discourages people who want to participate. Normally, your own data comes at the end.
