My good friend Sam made me this wonderful card for Halloween. The photo on the left is how it looks in person. The photo on the right is how it looks through the phone at a certain angle.

Any guesses as to why? #art

Optically active ink? Gold specularity?

Or is it only the phone camera?

The cellophane envelope is thin enough to be a multiple of the wavelength of light. If you get the angle right, one particular set of wavelengths (colors) will cancel out and disappear, like magic. I could draw you the geometry in a diagram but it would probably take longer than drawing your card.
