Dessert is served!

Appelflappen (or apple filled doughnuts) served with home-made Hazelnut ice-cream.

NB: these are called Apple Beignets in the south of the Netherlands and in Belgium, but in the North where my Grandparents are from, they're Appelflappen.

This is one recipe, using beer as the leavening agent. I used instant dried yeast on this batch though, and used Β½ cup of rye flour to two cups of plain white wheat flour.

where I come from there are some similar doughnuts that have a plum inside. They're very tasty.

This is the closest recipe I could find: https://www.thespruceeats.com/hungarian-plum-dumplings-recipe-szilvas-gomboc-1136799

Here in Australia, both forms are used. Doughnuts is the correct English version, Donut is American.
