It's a good thing, tbh, finally we have a definite concrete answer to "why are you hating so much" that people can't dismiss as "paranoid commie nerd nonsense" despite, y'know.... the ever growing mountains of evidence that the paranoid commie nerds seem to have a pretty good grasp on all them tech trends and a shockingly high hit rate

This reminds me that I used to use self-hosted Mumble for game voice chat.

There are other alternatives if you want the persistent text chat features. alternativeto.net/software/disโ€ฆ

personally I will never comply with this stuff. I will always find a way to spoof the face scan (AI or otherwise) or find a different platform. Also keep in mind that producing/using any kind of fake government document is probably illegal. Take care.

It's nefarious, everything corporations do now has been nefarious. Leave them, it's what they're asking for but know you're addicted to it.
Same reason fuk face said he could shoot someone on 5th ave, subliminal brainwashing no matter what atrocities these abhorrent "humans" dish out.
Yes, it is an insult to humans!

Considering that many countries currently evaluate the possibility to restrict social media for minors in general, like Australia, this might be a bit premature to add further restrictions. Also, the kids are not stupid, they'll figure out how to circumvent that. And if they can't, i'm pretty certain that many adult users will not go through the hassle of getting approved either.

I've seen quite a couple of times what happens when people decide to show people's privacy in public. If Discord crosses this line and affects my line of work, I'm leaving Discord and going for alternatives. Listing possible alternatives: Zulip, Signal, Threema, Session, Element, Matrix, and Wire.

This may impact me line of work but if my privacy is going to be violated, I don't think I have a better choice. Stuff like this is why I want to leave Microsoft.

from the comments, I don't think people understand this is government-mandated. Discord wouldn't inflict this onto themselves. The age verification thing is an excuse to get the ID of everyone, that's all. Same with requiring your phone number (= ID). It all ties in with digital IDs and the BS most governments are pushing forward. If you want to opt out the real #privacy centered options are Briar, Jami, Tox, Jitsi and most self-hosted federated solutions. Like Mastodon
