Once it gets traction, I foresee a lawsuit from Unity incoming. And no matter how ridiculous the claims are, it’ll scare some shops into not using it.
The FUD playbook worked against BSD and Linux long enough to not try that move here.

@brezelradar Uh, what? That will never happen. MonoGame has been around for a long time. This is like saying Unity will go after any random open source tech.

ATM MonoGame flies under the radar, I guess. Give it some 5-10 years time.

Of course it all depends on how many of the shops (or better: share of the current market invested in unity) drop their unity commitment in favor of MonoGame for new projects. If it is still "one out of many" then, it's not worth fighting them.

@brezelradar it definitely doesn't fly under the radar, it's basically the successor to XNA - it's well known by game devs. It's literally nothing to do with Unity, and not a game engine. Don't spread fear.

Spreading fear was not my intent. On the contrary, I wish them great success in being/remaining a foss alternative.

With "flies under the radar", I mean that it isn't a big player commercially with market share of say more than 5% yet. Not yet interesting enough.

I am aware of the history - I once fiddled with XNA for my own pet project (and switched to Unity for later projects).

nice for them, i may not personally use MonoGame but hey, Free and Open Source it's ALWAYS nice.
