Cross-distribution support improvements coming for Canonical's Snap packages
Well, 2024 should be interesting for Linux packaging! While many distributions use different packaging formats like deb, rpm and others there's also Flatpak for cross-distro support.Liam Dawe (GamingOnLinux)

This obviously doesn't mean that there are no issues with package formats, there are, but they are still better than anything else that is default on others, and what others have been doing is to imitate Linux to improve.
The point on confusion I agree.

In addition, the snapcraft.io backend is proprietary (unlike Flathub), so this format will never be adopted by all distributions. If they really want to be cross-platform, they should start by working on these two points.

They should keep both things, native applications and snap clearly separated instead of silently inject snap packages in apt.
Thats simply evil.
