During my talk today at the Fediverse House, I quoted @danirabbit :

wouldn't this just make someone think they'd be able to follow people who are on Twitter, Bluesky, Facebook, etc.? "Any social network" is very broad and is bound to disappoint a new user brought in by that promise

You can follow people on Bluesky from the Fediverse, and vice verse.

I follow a number of people on Bluesky from this Mastodon account.

bridges aren't really that clear for a new, non-technical user who just wants. They probably won't realize that it's (usually) one way, for example.

(I'm also personally opposed to bridges to commercial social networks, but that's another matter)

As far as I can tell, this isn't about bridges. This is how the fediverse works. mastodon.social is technically a different "social network" from burnthis.town, for example, more so for Flipboard, Akkoma, Pixelfed and other platforms you may be seamlessly communicating without even realizing.

I understand that that's what's meant. But someone unfamiliar with ActivityPub who's told that won't.
