Isn’t it incredible to live on the same planet where this magnificent, ancient shark once grew up to 65 ft (20m)? 🦈

The massive megalodon swam Earth’s ocean for millions of years.

Funny how many folks mistakenly believe humans are some kind of pinnacle of #evolution. We literally just arrived a few hundred thousand years ago. #science #history

ok just to try and put it to scale (thanks https://www.themeasureofthings.com/results.php?comp=height&unit=ft&amt=65&sort=pr&p=1)

That's like almost 2 whole telephone pole lengths tall
Or 4 giraffes tall.....
2.5 London busses long
Or 4 cars long (think about that next time you're stuck in traffic. If you're sitting by the sharks giant head, his tail is the bumper of the guy 4 cars behind you...)

And we are already well on the way to making ourselves (along with a bunch of other folks) extinct. With no help from above.

We're at the pinnacle of destruction, with the atomic bomb and more under our belt, so to speak 😂

I am terrified of sharks. Seeing Jaws as a child was a very bad idea. 65 ft ⁉️😱

@lisamelton indeed and it’s incredible to think about the entire ecosystem that lasted for millions of years and supported such giant creatures. We almost certainly only know of a small fraction of what made up that whole system (much of which likely left few traces behind)

but only we were able to destroy our own conditions of live!
Well, parasites do that as well. Or cancer. We are the pinnacle of life...
