1836. When Texas declared independence from Mexico after Mexico outlawed slavery, the early government was so devoted to slavery and to white supremacy that they wrote it down, explicitly and at length, in the constitution of the new republic.
To teach students a race-blind history of Texas is simply to lie to them.
