Would highly recommend Every Living Thing by Jason Roberts - wonderful dual biography of Linnaeus and Buffon. Many fascinating anecdotes about both - especially Linnaeus, who was a bit of a character.

Roberts also makes the point that Buffon's writings describe many elements of evolution and biogeography well before Darwin or Lamarck, but that his work was largely ignored after the French Revolution because of his connection to the monarchy. An interesting example of how these political events shape science and science history long afterwards.
