Content warning: Facebook, meta, slurs, antisemitism
What I find baffling about people shunning the #FediPact are the assertion that Meta should be treated as all other instances and not blocked, as if over a decade of conduct is too unreliable of a data point to ever possibly judge a corporate entity.
For example...
Less than a year ago Meta were profiting from ads accusing the LGBTQ+ demographic of being "groomers" after a report the month before which shined a light on the issue. https://www.mediamatters.org/facebook/meta-still-profiting-ads-use-anti-lgbtq-groomer-slur-despite-platforms-ban
Meta has confirmed these ads would be against their policies. https://www.dailydot.com/debug/reddit-post-inspires-calls-twitter-ban-anti-lgbtq-groomer-slur/
Looking back to 2021 Meta was taking money from the Chinese government to promote material that denied the genocide of Uyghur Muslims in China. https://pressgazette.co.uk/news/facebook-china-misinformation/
Centre for Countering Digital Hate found in late 2020 that Facebook despite being warned 2 years prior were hosting dozens of accounts selling neo-nazi merch to 80'000 followers. https://counterhate.com/research/hatebook/
These are just the handful of incidents from the last three years, there have been more during this timeframe, before it and since but I had to cut it somewhere for my sanity. On that note am I insane or would any admin out there (apart from the ones running anarchy instances) tolerate this from another instance? Like is this the organization you want to associate yourself with? Because this talk of "We need to wait and see" implies that so far you have no problem with this kind of conduct within your federation, that this is the behavior you expect from the rest of Fedi. Surely we can do better than that don't y'all think?
