I had code to compute color similarity in CIELAB space, which gives slightly different results than just finding the nearest R, G, B triplet: https://git.eamoncaddigan.net/color_dissimilarity/file/dissimilarity.R.html

dissimilarity.R - color_dissimilarity - Measure the similarity of colors in a palette, and choose dissimilar colors from them.
