#Binturongs AKA Bearcats are not actually related to cats or bears. They smell of buttered popcorn and #vulnerable due to #palmoil #deforestation throughout SE #Asia. Help them survive, #Boycott4Wildlife on brands causing #deforestation https://palmoildetectives.com/2021/10/16/binturong-arctictis-binturong/ via @palmoildetectives

@carbon_compound They are not objects or "pets" for sale - they are wild animals. This kind of thing is why many of these animals are getting closer to extinction - its yet another threat - the illegal pet trade.

I saw one at a roadside tourist attraction mini zoo. The big cat (tiger?) Was behind chicken wire and a single strand electric fence wire. Content, but interestedly chuffing as the small humans squeaked running by.

The bear cat was in ... The Pit. Metal walls, sunk well below the ground. One could look down at it, but it was like Super Max Solitary compared to the tiger.

Closest living relative to the wolverine.

Do not mess with bear cat.

@pseudonym That's sad, did you pay for the privilege of seeing that kind of depraved animal cruelty?

This was many years ago, so memory is vague, but I doubt it. More likely the attractions were the draw and the profit was from food and concessions and such.

I just recall having never heard of a bear cat previously, and then looking up information about them later

@pseudonym It's terrible how these animals are treated for human entertainment in these kinds of places 😨
