time to ring up my homeboy Karl Marx

On a more serious note, regardless of how you feel about those figures, this is just… weird, and I’m surprised that this got past any sort of review. Even more strange that this is the “correct” example of high quality content for a screenshot.
in reply to Lea

It's just pointless drama to use Karl Marx as an example, it serves the purpose but you know people are going to harass you for it. Just use a cat picture or AI generate a face
in reply to Brodie Robertson

I mean, if it were me or fyra, I'd do cats or catgirls :3

completely agree though

@BrodieOnLinux What’s pointless is that attitude and instant “disapproval” of it as if it’s a serious matter or means anything.

You are trying to get ahead of the supposed “hate mail” and harassment of it as you give a shit and play the smartass, when in reality it’s yet another reactionary lip service masquerading as “apolitical” under the disguise of “caring for the project and the impact”

in reply to Jordan Petridis

@BrodieOnLinux Newsflash, this says a lot more about the people making a fuss about it than who is depicted in the mockup.

The designers and people involved in the project are humans, not apolitical husks.

Politics are part of their everyday lives, work and shape the software that ends up in your desktop.

This is plain dehumanization on the basis of “omg this is not appropriate or not the time for it” and it’s done to serve a specific purpose, willingly or not.

Disgusting.

in reply to Jordan Petridis

@alatiera If a project used a picture of Hitler in the example would you think this is a good idea if that's there political stance
in reply to Brodie Robertson

@BrodieOnLinux I mean, there's a massive difference between using a picture of someone with ideas and someone directly linked to genocide

@alatiera @lea

in reply to TheEvilSkeleton

@TheEvilSkeleton It was an intentionally inflammatory example, the point I was getting at was it's not seen as issue if you're someone that likes the person, but there are a lot of people out there who don't and all including them does is makes you a target for needless harassment.

@alatiera @lea

in reply to Brodie Robertson

@TheEvilSkeleton @alatiera When you're already a target if you're from a project like GNOME for example there's no point painting a bigger one on your back for no reason at all
in reply to Brodie Robertson

@BrodieOnLinux @TheEvilSkeleton @alatiera
somehow I think not having this would have been even worse for me going through the comments - with this there is at least some distraction 😀

and as far as I've read up on the people I'm glad you kept it at marx - could have been worse

in reply to razze

@razze @TheEvilSkeleton @alatiera I do like that this distracted from the other actual issues lol, I only brought it up because I know some people are obsessed with politics are harass others over it, but the screenshot structure itself wasn't a problem
in reply to Lea

For those who don't know, the other contacts in the example screenshot are other communist revolutionaries and figures. Not just Karl Marx.. hey, at least they put effort into it.
in reply to Lea

I couldn't tell past the 5 pixels in the "good" screenshot lol

@alatiera It was an example, pick any figure that you don't particularly like

@monster @joojmachine @alatiera If someone came to that conclusion they likely already had a really negative opinion on GNOME and possibly Flatpak/Flathub as well. I explicitly said in the video that they are guidelines used to decide which apps to highlight not hardset rules, I used the word guidelines in the title, I do think I should probably should have repeated it again at the end though.
in reply to Brodie Robertson

@monster @joojmachine @alatiera However even after being told they're guidelines I'm seeing people say "Well yeah they are now but wait until they're not" some people are completely delusional and no amount of guardrails will keep them on track.

@monster @BrodieOnLinux @alatiera right? and specially knowing where a lot of your fanbase stands politically (I've been on Brodie's Matrix community for less than a week and I know exactly where they stand) weirdly focusing on the Marx thing is almost a dogwhistle for the trolls and right-wingers there to go abusing the devs

If the intention was to avoid having people harassing the devs, pointing this out is absolutely having the opposite effect

in reply to Daimar Stein :tux: :comunista:

The matrix is abandoned, that's it's own thing now and has nothing to do with me at this point, the links are still present because I haven't removed them
