Please get @LinusTech to see this video, you have encouraged millions of people to run an incredibly dangerous Windows install with almost no mention of it's flaws @linusgsebastian @luke_lafr @Anjyoun #Windows #AtlasOS https://youtu.be/ctONKQByx-M

Good video. I "love" LTTs "oops can't actually research things too busy churning out sub-par clickbait content for the views!!!!!" mentality.

Disabling UAC... What could go wrong?I think you've been very generous in your video, both towards Linus and Atlas OS. Nobody should use an OS where everything runs as root on anything that isn't air gapped, especially as this doesn't even receive updates. They should've looked into it more closely before recommending it to their audience. Having seen this, it's quite ironic that Linus told Anthony triumphantly that it would kill Linux as an old hardware reviver.

Linus has never worked an IT job in his life, while I bet a lot do, you shouldn't take advice about OS stuff from him, his channel comes from an entertainment POV.

However, not to single him out, you see a lot on privacy forums saying run X script to disable telemetry, which is always a bad idea anywhom.

I like LTT, I've watched him for around 10 years now, but as someone who works in IT, I watch it purely for entertainment, some parts are "correct" but not always.

The only good use-case for this is a local-only gaming machine, paired with a good firewall like pfsense (with good firewall rules), then a server that handles a steam-cache, and something like a squid proxy. Optimally, you'd be able to get slightly more performance out of your hardware, with all the fun of learning all about networking, ports, and rules.

The way they went "no biggie" / "haven't researched" about a list of MAJOR security concerns is...yikes.

I'm a bit disappointed in Anthony, whom I respect for really knowing his stuff and usually going beyond just scratching the surface. Not this time, though

I woke up, saw Chris Titus had blogged about this as well, and remembered a cool utility. WsusOffline could be used to manually handle updates.

I still can't condone using AtlasOS, but it's a un thought experiment to work around the issues.
