I've been using Mimestream as my MacOS email client for less than a day and it's already so much better than the increasingly janky Gmail web interface. What's your email setup these days? https://mimestream.com/
in reply to kottke.org

mail.app with Fastmail as the host - though my email preferences run old school for sure
in reply to kottke.org

I've been waiting on an IMAP-equivalent of Mimestream for years. No one cares about non-Gmail clients though.
in reply to kottke.org

I’d love to try it out, but I use Fastmail.
in reply to kottke.org

I have been using Mimestream since it was available as a beta. I love it and would not go back. Now I hope that an iOS version will be ready soon.
in reply to kottke.org

I know you have no input to their features, and you’ve been peppered with this already, but maybe the devs will see this thread.

Here’s another FastMail user who would be happy to buy their product. Doesn’t have to be IMAP (which is a mess). FastMail also does the considerably more modern JMAP.

in reply to kottke.org

Fastmail because the migration from gmail (which I’d been using since beta days) was so easy. Breath of fresh air.
in reply to kottke.org

I’m very interested in Mimestream, but I need them to support Fastmail (JMAP) and mobile first…

My current setup is Fastmail in the backend, and for clients, I’m a very basic Spark user. As a light email user, I wouldn’t pay much for Spark, but it’s nice and included in Setapp!

in reply to kottke.org

I use Mail.app, and I only use Gmail for spam-likely sources. I use Fastmail for all my real email needs.

Mail.app mostly works the way I want, but has some annoying bugs that have been around for decades.

in reply to kottke.org

i just use email.app with iCloud for personal email and Google Workspace for my business. Nothing else.

I don't believe in paying for an email client.

in reply to kottke.org

Apparently, I must trust you. I've downloaded it, installed it, attached it to my Gmail account, and have now received my email and sent one out.

Fingers crossed. 🙂

BTW, I was pleased that I can follow them on Mastodon, something they offered as part of the installation.

I had been a long time user of the web interface with the Simplify Gmail plugin, but Mimestream has finally converted me, it’s so fast and seamless
in reply to kottke.org

great app, was on the beta a few years ago, just wish it supported icloud mail too.
in reply to kottke.org

also @mimestream. The main thing stopping me wholeheartedly recommending it is that it is, currently, only for gmail, and the way google are these days I’d hesitate to recommend *that*, but if you are already using gmail, it’s brilliant. Want an iOS/iPadOS version. Also a Linux version…
in reply to kottke.org

I'm using MailMate, the best professional IMAP client since the demise of Mulberry.
in reply to kottke.org

email app and iCloud. I’ve mostly migrated away from Gmail or any other google platform.

Mac
- Mimestream for my work Gmail
- Mail.app for personal (via Fastmail)

iPhone
- Gmail app (puke) for work Gmail
- Mail for personal (via Fastmail)

I wish I had one client (ideally Mimestream) for all of it. 😮‍💨

I love Shortwave! It’s a Gmail client, and while it’s not the absolute pinnacle of how Mac software is supposed to look, it’s got all the features of Google Inbox (RIP), along with an amazing AI assistant.

I love Mimestream it’s so fast. Dying for them to release an iOS app.
in reply to kottke.org

been on Mimestream for a few months now. It’s amazing. I even get through my promotions tabs!
in reply to kottke.org

Surprised to see no one mention Spark by Readdle. I like their classic version better than Mimestream.
in reply to kottke.org

I also use #Mimestream. Use for my work and personal Gmail accounts. Works pretty great. I came from #Airmail on #iOS and #macOS. It’s hands down better than Airmail and I eagerly await for their iOS app to so I can boot Airmail to the curb.
in reply to kottke.org

Airmail + Fastmail. I like Mimestream a lot, but don’t want to use Gmail for my mailbox.
in reply to kottke.org

For my personal stuff: Mimestream for Mac, Mail.app on iOS.

Outlook for work (which is actually pretty decent, also nice to have the app separation when I don’t need to be in my work email)

in reply to kottke.org

In what seems a common theme: @mimestream for work, Apple Mail with @fastmail backend for home.
