There's a whole chapter in A Pattern Language dedicated to creating spaces in cities so people can dance in the streets.
in reply to Odo Klave

@dualhammers yup, it's always on the navigation table, I pick it up from time to time and read a pattern or three 😀 Reading about dancing in the streets and waterways tonight.

@dualhammers I keep a spare copy of a Pattern Language in the bathroom. Can read a pattern at a time. Plus it's a fun way to communicate with other bathroom visitors by leaving it open to a particular pattern.
in reply to trave

@Trav @dualhammers it's definitely an ideal bathroom book haha, short chapters, hyperfocused.

I can imagine someone coming out of the bathroom like "I've just learnt the most fascinating thing about rooftops-"
in reply to Devine Lu Linvega

@dualhammers lol yes exactly. When it disappears from the bathroom I joke to my roommates that I need it back because it keeps me regular.
in reply to Odo Klave

I'm curious -- did you become more of a reader over time being on the boat?
in reply to Odo Klave

@dualhammers yeah, I think it really helped me make time to read. I read a bit before, but I always squeezed it between two other things, like when I'm taking the bus, or waiting for something. I didn't really just read because it was fun
in reply to Odo Klave

@dualhammers yup, nothing in life has made me more aware that time is relative than a boat..

thanks for talking about this book. I had it on my wishlist years ago but gave up because the only copies I could find listed were $300. Now I see ones for about $50. Much better!
in reply to matt

@maphew It's well worth the 50$ if you can afford it, they're pretty rare nowadays.

Sleeping in public too.

"Is this a safe neighbourhood?"

"I dunno but there are people over there taking a nap and no-one's bothering them."
