@artsun the story is quite simple, we had a 3 burner stove+oven. We never used the over in 9 years, and only ever used 1 burner, so we figured we might as well use that space for something useful 😀
there isn't any lips on the picture, we haven't started working on the doors, the picture only shows the bottom one(opened). We wouldn't go off at sea like this XD
@klardotsh haha yeah no, we only got started on the basic structure today, it's unvarnished, unsecured.. There's quite a way to go before this is practical.
Looks great! How many passes of coffee varnish do you apply in total? And do you put on a finishing coat of something else to make it more durable or is it just coffee?
Also I've always struggled cutting out parts like the middle piece of the U. Do you use a specific tool for the purpose or do you do it the dumb way like I do it? That is, making tons of tight parallel cuts until the material disintegrates, haha
I use a round file to help clean out the bottom(inside) of the U, because its tough to align the parallel vertical cuts with the edges of the drilled hole 😛 (i have a tendency to saw at an angle apparently).
Photos don't show it but it's not at all perfect, sanding down the edges helps to mask imperfections.
This project allows us to keep vegetables in a way so that they breathe well, and is accessible while we're cooking. I'm so glad we finally got around to it.
