Everyone receiving their #PinebookPro laptops:

It appears that the factory has left the WiFi privacy switches turned ON. (WiFi disabled) ?‍♂️

To enable WiFi you'll need to disengage the privacy switch: https://wiki.pine64.org/index.php/Pinebook_Pro#Privacy_Switches

In the end though, people who are hyper-conscious about privacy aren't the only people buying the PBP. There's plenty of people who just like the idea of ARM laptops.

And those are the people who are going to flood our social media, forum, and support team with cries for help over "broken WiFi". ?

I'd always rather WiFi and bluetooth off by default. And fuck software switches, a hardware switch on the case is golden. Too bad my ThinkPad X220 is showing its age, and none of the newer laptops seem to have them.

Despite being on the keyboard, they kind of are hardware switches. The power to the WiFi/BT module gets toggled.

The control logic is within the keyboard controller firmware, and the only way to toggle the switches is by physically pressing the relevant key combination.

If you want to be especially paranoid, I guess that a bad actor could replace that firmware. But reprogramming that controller is a complex and difficult task, and I can't see that being a significant concern.

thats a sane default setting, it prevents that the laptop accidently connects to the wifi! I like that. ? ?
