Software has a shelf-life sometimes; it's okay if it is. It's also okay to not care about something for ONLY 5 MONTHS.

@cbleslie orca-c and most of the uxn emulators will still work in 20 years

It would be cool to do a "golden record"-style project at some point. Etch the uxn specs (including very basic descriptions of how binary and basic encodings work, in case future tech changes drastically) onto an aluminum plate using a cnc router, and include some sample programs as base64 ;)

I believe it. I've shared your "Weathering Software Winter" talk with everyone willing to listen. Which... isn't many. :eyeroll:

*proceeds to create a fork that adds a commit to the docs and then gets abandoned for eternity*

The JavaScript “if it hasn’t been updated in the last hour it’s dead” mind virus has unfortunately been infecting other communities lately

Meanwhile in Common Lisp it's the norm for libraries and projects to go for years without significant updates or commits. No one bats an eye and we still just use the stuff. Its interesting how folks are taught to distrust projects that don't have non-stop activity.

I wish this were any sort of one-off. Three of the metrics I was required to use by a former boss in evaluating dependencies (libraries or devtools) were

- GitHub/GitLab stars
- Frequency of commits
- Proportion of open to closed issues and PRs in the tracker

I still usually was able to make a case for something that hadn't seen dev work in 3mo. Sometimes even 6mo. If there hadn't been commits in >6mo to the main branch, that boss usually considered the tool abandonware :flan_rage:
