I believe what #RedHat is doing is not against the #GPL or #FreeSoftware. For me, what's more concerning is their communication in which they position themselves as "fully committed to open source", while constantly egging on one of the four pillars of software freedom.

in reply to Brodie Robertson • • •Not a lawyer - but I've been part of traversing the GPL back and forth at <very large global company> with the legal department to ultimately get the approval to use GPL in our products. I see no GPL issues with what Red Hat is doing, and I don't even consider it to be against the spirit of the GPL.
On the contrary actually. The GPL itself is a license of the type "abide by the contract or you're not getting a copyright exemption". RHEL is saying the same thing, on top. "abide by the contract or you're not getting a new one".
