xubuntu for minecraft or minetest. That's 100% compatibility for all games i want to play. It works out of the box. Even custom launchers working like charm.

I installed Nobara (Fedora 39) on my Steam Deck. It's great for gaming and simple to use. And it also can install software that are not flatpak...

Arch, because you have easy access to the latest kernel and mesa drivers, as well as the latest updates to your DE or WM.

#NixOS. It has the simplest setup for Steam with Proton-GE, that keeps them updated. Up to date GPU drivers and custom kernels if you want to use those.
Plus system is lightweight and hard to break.

NixOS gives me easy access to applying deep tweaks & patches to the setup, with continuous updates, everything managed in the same central file or however I decide to subdivide it.

Gaming is really low on my priorities list. Ubuntu seems to run Steam OK... I don't like Snaps, but... meh.

Steam OS, because it’s so well preconfigured and easy to use.

been sticking with uBlue images for all my machines for a while. Rebasing temporarily to test out a different DE / setup is pretty awesome. Bazzite for my home theater/gaming PC, Bluefin for my old MacBook Air, and the cosmic+gnome image for my development machine. Enjoying the cosmic desktop and it's trajectory. Still needs a bit of smoothing but it has so much promise.

Manjaro. Very quick to setup including Steam, Lutris and Heroic Games Launcher. Simply worked for me on every machine, even those that needed some kind of tinkering using other distros.
