long aswr: Yes I've used WSL at work and it was good. I've compiled my code in WSL before uploading it to the MCU. Getting the arm none eabi compiler running on windows with my employers UAC settings was not possible and asking IT would've taken ages as I was only an intern.
WSL is a good way to bypass UAC restrictions 😝.
Only later I found out I could've just asked for an Ubuntu install and WSL was overly complicated.

I have used Cygwin for a while ( WinXP, Win7 ) . Seen WSL only shortly - my company doesnot allow it because it would compromise Win10's vulnerability ( did they mean security ?) 😜 However it received good critics .
WSL is great ... in theory. Especially with VSCode Remote Plugin, you can easily develop for Linux systems. However, VS Code Remote often freezes the VM (not limited to WSL). For me, WSL is the second best way to test Ansible roles with molecule and podman containers. (The best way is to convince your IT boss to replace Windows with Linux on your desktop).
It's a solution in search of a problem. Microsoft would have done better by just making a Posix compliant terminal instead of digging in their heels with Powershell.
I always felt like WSL was just an attempt by Microsoft to entice more devs to use Windows because so many love Linux's tools, just to game their usage numbers and to collect more data on a larger number of people for their advertising business.
It's good but not great. Very convenient way of running your usual tools while on Windows, including graphical apps. There are some incompatibilities here and there (I have had some issues with nvim + telescope), but overall it's a nice thing to keep in your backpocket.
