It warned Anthropic it will “pay a price” if it continues to demand its products have safeguards.


Yeah the Pentagon was unfettered control of its use of their AI system for National Surveillance, making autonomous weapons or "facilitate violence" at home as well as in foreign battlefields and conflicts, and threatens to replace their product with another that will let them do these things.

Just wait until there's open-source AI-powered assassin drones taking out the billionaires.
They'll slap safeguards* on those as fast as they can!

*But only for us. They will still use AI without safeguards despite the state-mandated backdoors that make them hackable.

I think that is the prime driver behind the recent restrictions on drone part and imports. I don't think the Ukrainian's would hesitate to share/sell if things got hot here.

When I think of automated killing machines, I think of the Ogre board game and the dystopian universe in which it is set. The details differ, but the general arc of that timeline is prescient of this one, at least so far.
