A front page article on the Washington Post telling people how to get started with Mastodon?

That’s a big deal.

"The dark edges between the thalli are called the prothallus, and are where the fungal partner is present without the algal partner" — Dr. Mike Simms, Lichenologist, personal correspondence.

The searching fungi draws borders on stone.

A lichen that is coloniser and collaborator, teaching me something about porous edges and permeable places. Apparently, after growing for thousands of years, they create spaces where they (co)exist.

There is a lot to unpick here, and a lot to learn.

@mycorrhiza the lichen keep tricking me too, creating shapes that seem familiar when I look at them for too long. I am pretty sure they are doing this to offer some perspective on how we all live on this small rock-in-space, but I haven't been able to understand yet. Hopefully some day.

Then and now.

Servius' list of the Pignora Imperii shoud be corrected, according to Falconet: I am convinced that instead of acus matris Deum, one should read caus, the same word as cautes.

From Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pignora_…

The first item on the list: "The needle of the Mother of the Gods (Acus Matris Deum), kept in the Temple of Cybele on the Palatine Hill."

No not a needle, but a stone, indeed, a meteorite.

Dominance Rituals
What Elon Musk is doing with Twitter and journalism is a dominance ritual much like the ones the 45th POTUS was pulling. The best response is to leave Twitter and ignore the Mediocre Bond Villain #MBV.
#MBV
in reply to Muse

Agree....the media was complicate with Trump all the time he was president. They should have held him to account or blackballed him but they were too concerned about their audiences/advertisers/$$$$
in reply to Muse

I fear we no longer have real journalism anymore, just word processors to the big bucks. No one ever asks the right questions ...If I can think of them then these so called journalists are just ass kissers

Baby man musk is still blocking links to profiles here while he wants to be thanked for bringing people "free speech".

That is such little man energy... little tiny man.

Art Trend of 2022: How AI Art Emerged and Polarized the Art World

Artificial intelligence has been around for years, but AI-generated artwork has really taken off in 2022. With its growing presence and its rise in implementation, AI has proven to be a powerful yet controversial tool in the art world. Its use leads many to ask several questions: Is it art? Is it cheating? And who does the credit go to?

in reply to Muse

haveibeentrained.com/ also has a link to opting out of AI training for Stable Diffusion V3
(it's early days and the search tool needs some refinement but someone's making a start, so that's good)

@Jay Bryant
Pretty sure all dark chocolate only comes in single serving packages regardless of the size of the package.

I'm so happy!

I applied as uopeople student with sheerID and storytel and I got accepted. I thought they will reject me but they did not 🎉

Also, I'm happy to see the university I'm in is listed among other universities, it's like pointing and saying "oh I'm there" (I know it sounds dumb 😂)

I just want the Trappist-1 system,
7 planets shining bright,
From TRAPPIST-1b to TRAPPIST-1g,
Each one a cosmic sight.

I don't need any presents,
Just the wonder that you bring,
Your planets orbiting around,
The star that makes them sing.

I just want to explore you,
Discover all your secrets, too,
From rocky worlds to gas giants,
The mysteries you hold true.

Chorus:
All I want for Christmas is you,
Trappist-1, oh how true,
All I want for Christmas is you,
The beauty of your cosmic crew.
