Some good points and some weird points.

โ€œI think the Silicon Valley and Big Tech companies and billionaires control the narrative over AI so much that it creates little space for that kind of debate thatโ€™s necessary for a technology that grows so massively,โ€ George Zarkadakis, AI engineer, futurist, and writer, told TNW.

2020 saw a record-breaking rise in methane, a potent greenhouse gas. The increase was driven by a combination of warm, wet weather in the Northern Hemisphere and the COVID-19 lockdowns.

go.nasa.gov/3YCcxMm
#NASAEarth

in reply to NASA

so it mentions several times 'due to lockdowns' but zero references as to *why*

Canada (where I live) never once 'locked down', we could always go out and shop at malls throughout the entire pandemic, I understand some American states may have introduced individualized 'lockdown' concepts

so with 'lockdown' poorly defined, and zero references as to what about 'lockdowns' caused an increase in methane...

...this is weird misinformation

A decrease of nitrogen oxides (NOx) pollution during the COVID-19 lockdowns indirectly slowed the removal of methane from the atmosphere.

NOx serves as an atmospheric โ€œdetergentโ€ by reacting with methane and removing it from the atmosphere.

In 2020, Northern wetlands were about half a degree warmer than in 2019 and had 2-11% more precipitation. This likely caused wetlands to expand, brought earlier soil thaw and later soil freeze dates, and may have increased methane emissions from permafrost and thermokarst lakes.

That is quite an honor. I like the symbolism of the south pole as the solar system orbital plane of the ecliptic is in same relationship to the plane of the galaxy rather. Like that which a Ferris Wheel has to the ground.

The heart of the Milky Way is to the south of earth as mapped in the night stars.

I am lucky to have had very dark skies whereby I could see the summer stars and the heart of the Galaxy between the sting of the Scorpion and the Archer or some name , the Teapot.โ€™

"As more autonomous vehicles (AV) begin driving American roads, those roads need to change with them."

Counterpoint: No they don't.

in reply to kottke.org

The networked autonomous car thing is funny. Is it really way easier to teach a car to drive and talk to other cars, than a human driver to talk to other human drivers? Relegated to crude honking, blinking, and handwaving, human drivers will never be able to organize a car culture more complex than a school of fish.

Today I was banned from #Facebook because I shared a screenshot of a letter in a local newspaper.

The article criticised #fishfarming prominent position in the media. I believe that #trollfarm were used to make this picture flagged as #fakenews . Similar things happened when I shared another screenshot from Canada #fishfarms. This morning I was lazy and shared the image instead of searching for the link. I am surprised how the blue F silences activism. Is that legal?

That's terrible. I haven't used FB much for things where I'm seeking discovery... I don't think I'm very good at optimizing for discovery anyways (I've relied too much on Google search and YT). I'm curious though, did you share from your personal account or page/organization account? Which one got banned? Are you going to appeal?

@danwchan personal account, I don't share these things through our company as it is not relevant. However I have lost access to all my pages and the contacts. But it is a private network and they can do whatever they want. So I am backing up my data and that will be it.
